Historic Harbert winery conversion a true team effort.

January 1, 2004-Harbert MI. When the new owners of the former Molly Pitcher Winery located in Harbert Michigan, first purchased the historic building, a commercial venture was the objective. Richard and Eileen Kochanny of Lepin Development LLC, state it wasn’t until further exploration within the structure that they began to appreciate the many interesting spaces, and elevations the building incorporated. Before long it became clear that the property would make ideal loft living space, so original plans were abandoned and they decided to embark on a monumental journey. The first step was to assemble a team of professionals who shared the vision for what would soon see new life as an upscale residential loft/town home development to be named Vineyard Lofts. Realizing that the exterior was far less intriguing than the interior it was clear that finding the right architect would be essential. After an exhaustive search the architectural firm Frey Gillian Molinaro, whose work they had been familiar with from the television show “Extreme Homes” fame was chosen. Together they developed an exciting modern design that preserves many attributes of the winery while creating gallery like interiors. Other team members brought on board to assist include structural expertise provided by GMB Engineering of Holland Michigan, electrical and mechanical design provided by Radiant Design of Grand Rapids Michigan, and Construction services by Reenders Construction of Grand Haven Michigan.

            With the team and designs in place, construction is scheduled to begin early 2004.

In conjunction with the start of construction an on site sales office will open on weekends through the remaining winter months to showcase the many exciting offerings the project will incorporate. The 2.57 acre Vineyard Loft project will house 14 low maintenance loft/ town homes, that will average over 2000sq/ft. Unique open floor plans will feature master suites, lofted bedrooms and large great rooms with ceiling heights up to 20 ft. Many interesting features of the original winery including the concrete vats used in the wine making process will be preserved and incorporated into select units. Outside, private courtyards, terraces and roof top decks will complement the beautifully landscaped grounds. Standard whole house networking and optional home automation packages will complete the project that the developer is calling “the ultimate in contemporary living” Surprisingly, thirteen of the fourteen units will be desirable corner units.  Pre-construction prices will start between $309,000 and $499,000
