The Vineyard Lofts project Fact Sheet

Location: 13595 Red Arrow Hwy., Harbert, MI 49115

Property overview: Single structure totaling, 30,000 sq/ft. 12-20ft ceilings, all block/concrete construction, steel and wood roofs, 13 concrete wine vats still in place, second floor above ½ of the building, different elevations throughout situated on 2.57 acres. Property is 7 blocks from the Lake Michigan beach, and is located in a popular second home community in Michigan’s Harbor Country.

History of building: Built in the late 1920’s, the building was Michigan’s oldest continuously operating winery until it’s closing in 1990.

Project highlights: Building is being converted into 14, two/three bedroom lofts that range from 1725 to over 3000 sq/ft. Units feature individual entrances, open floor plans, master bedroom suites and custom kitchens with SS appliances and granite countertops, all standard. Oversized great rooms, ceiling heights up to 20ft., private courtyards, terraces and roof top decks compliment the beautifully landscaped grounds. Concrete vats used in the wine making process have been opened and are being incorporated into bedrooms and kitchens in select lofts. Units are wired with Cat5e cable for home networking. Home automation packages are also available.

Design premise: The winery had evolved over many years with buildings being added in a hap-hazard manner. The architects were inspired by this lack of order, and based on ancient Italian village planning concepts, tied the project together with a narrow main pedestrian walkway that meanders through the winery buildings. The existing structures were then incorporated into the one and two story new residences. With an emphasis on clean uncluttered lines, abundant light and a pronounced sense of order, the contemporary look is a curious combination of old and new.
